Do I also need RustEdit?
Section titled “Do I also need RustEdit?”Yes, for monuments, roads and prefabs. Crucible exports a .map file that already carries the terrain, the biomes and topology, the ground textures, the lakes and the cliffs, so RustEdit is where you place the rest and finish the map. What heightmap resolution does RustEdit use?
Section titled “What heightmap resolution does RustEdit use?”513, 1025, 2049 or 4097, depending on how big the map is. You type any map size from 1000 to 6000 metres in Crucible and it uses the matching resolution for you. See map sizes and resolutions.
Can I sell or share the maps I make?
Section titled “Can I sell or share the maps I make?”Yes. Heightmaps and maps you create are yours, including for commercial use. Run them on your servers, share them, or sell them on marketplaces like Codefling or Lone.Design.
How do I test my map?
Section titled “How do I test my map?”Run a local Rust server and walk it in game. The free Crucible Local Server app does this for you with no scripts, or see test your map on a local server for the manual setup.
Do I need the Crucible launcher?
Section titled “Do I need the Crucible launcher?”Crucible Heightmap is delivered through the Crucible launcher, which installs, updates, and launches it and holds your license. The launcher runs unlicensed, and your subscription only unlocks Crucible Heightmap.
Is the Crucible Local Server app free?
Section titled “Is the Crucible Local Server app free?”Yes. Crucible Local Server is free. Only Crucible Heightmap is paid. You can run and manage a local Rust server at no cost.
Does it run on Mac or Linux?
Section titled “Does it run on Mac or Linux?”Crucible is a native Windows app (Windows 10 and 11). Mac and Linux native support is planned for future releases.
How much is it, and how many PCs?
Section titled “How much is it, and how many PCs?”$4.49 per month or $44.99 per year, up to 2 PCs per license. You activate and manage it in the Crucible launcher. See install Crucible Heightmap to get started.
Why is Crucible Heightmap paid and not free?
Section titled “Why is Crucible Heightmap paid and not free?”The subscription ($4.49 per month or $44.99 per year) funds active development: ongoing updates, new features, and staying compatible with Rust’s frequent updates and RustEdit. No free Rust map generator keeps pace with Rust’s terrain the way Crucible does. Every map you make is yours to keep, share, or sell, so it pays for itself fast for active map makers. Cancel anytime.
How do updates work?
Section titled “How do updates work?”Through the Crucible launcher, with no reinstalls. When a new version is published, an Update button appears on the app’s tile and detail page, and launching the app asks whether you want Update now or Launch this version. Choosing to keep the version you have is remembered until a newer one ships.
Turn on Auto-update apps in the launcher’s Settings to have updates install in the background. That toggle is off by default. Settings > Updates > Check for updates runs the check on demand and covers your installed apps and the launcher together.
Something is not working
